Our Pastor

Good Shepherd UMC’s pastor is Rev. Seok Nam Lim.  Pastor Lim previously served as pastor at Korean UMC in East Lansing, Michigan; assistant pastor of Korean Presbyterian Church of Southern New York in Woodside, NY; Bible study leader at the Church of All Nations (UM) in Grand Rapids, Michigan (2009-2012). At the Church of All Nations, he served as worship leader for Korean worship services from August 2009 to June 2010, and as supply pastor of the entire congregation from July to December 2010.

Pastor Lim served a chaplaincy internship from February to May 2002 at Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital in Richmond, Virginia and did a residency for chaplaincy from June 2002 to June 2003 at Yuma Community Hospital in Arizona.

An immigrant to the United States from Korea in 1988, Reverend Lim holds a Master of Art in Religion (with an Urban Mission Emphasis) from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a Master of Divinity degree from Union Presbyterian Seminary; and a Master of Theology degree in Systematic Theology from Columbia Theological Seminary.

He has a passion for urban ministry and brings a global perspective to his ministry.  A Provisional Elder of the Detroit Conference, Rev. Lim comes with a deep spiritual life and a commitment to urban ministry in a multicultural context.

He and his wife, Soon-Shil Lim, have been married since May 1988 and they have a young adult son, Stephen Lim.

As Dearborn undergoes significant demographic changes, Rev. Lim comes as one who has experienced cultural and ethnic diversity and is able to lead us into the future with confidence that God is with us.

Speaking about his vision for the church, Rev. Lim states, “My vision for the church is to see all kinds of people living together in grace, peace and justice as the community of God’s Kingdom.”
